You’ve probably have heard all the craze over Facebook ads and have done your fair amount of research on the topic. That means you also know that “Boosting” your posts only works to a certain point and is not as effective. If you don’t know about this, we recommend you begin starting by reading our article explaining everything about Facebook ads and why “boosting” is bad practice. So by now, you’re burning to get started on running your own Facebook ads. Let’s jump right into it!
Getting Started
At this point, I’m assuming you’ve done your fair amount of research about Facebook ads and you’re here because you want to step it up and learn how to create ads using the Facebook Power Editor.
Creating a Facebook Business Account
The first step to getting started is making sure you have your Facebook Business Account set up and ready to go. If you don’t have one yet, start by going to https://business.facebook.com/. Click on “Create account” button where you’ll be able to quickly signup using your Facebook account. Just follow the instructions.
After you’ve created your account, you’ll be greeted with the Business Manager home page. This is where you will have quick access to your ad accounts and facebook pages. Since it’s a new account, you’ll be shown options to add a Facebook page, create an account, or to add people. Click “Add Ad Account” button. Follow the on-screen instructions and fill in all the information accurately. After you’ve created the Facebook ad account, it’ll immediately be displayed on the dashboard. Click it. You’ll be redirected to the Power Editor.
Getting Familiar with the Power Editor
The Power Editor is where you’ll manage and launch campaigns, ad sets, and ads. Here, you’ll also be able to view stats on how your campaigns are doing.
This is where the fun begins!
Begin by clicking the “Create Campaign” button.
You’ll be shown multiple objectives to select from according to your end goal. We’ll go through each objective one by one and explain what each is used for and which is the best to use.
Brand Awareness – You want more people in front of your business. We never use this option.
Reach – You want to reach the maximum amount of people. We never use this option either. Reach will show your ad to any and as many people of possible even if they are not interested.
Traffic – Used to send Facebook users outside of Facebook. For example, take them to your website or to a funnel where you collect their information. We use this option a lot.
Engagement – Used to target people who are likely to like, comment, or share your post.
Video Views – This is the best objective to use and the cheapest. It’ll show your video to targeted Facebook users that are likely to be interested in what you got to offer.
Lead Generation – Used for collecting lead information using Facebooks build in lead form. I do not recommend this option as it’s usually lower quality lead information. I suggest creating your own funnel in your own website.
Conversions – Best when used with e-commerce websites. It helps target people with who are likely to purchase and gives you options to have a “Shop Now” button.
Best Campaign Objective to Use
The best objective to choose for your campaigns is video views. Video views are not only the cheapest but also some of the most effective type of ads. Of course, depending on your end goal, you might want to choose a different objective to better accomplish it. For the purpose of this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to create an ad using the “Video Views” objective.
The Ad Set
After choosing your campaign objective, you’ll be redirected to the next step: Creating the ad set. What is the ad set? An ad set is where we’ll be managing our ad audience, our budget, and other options. Here we’re given the options to target our specific audience by location, age, gender, language, and interests.
Selecting Your Audience
The first thing you’ll want to do is set the location you’re trying to target. For local small businesses, depending on your industry, we usually recommend setting the
